Die Zeichnung entstand durch das wiederholte Hören und Mitzeichnen einer Aufnahme von „Stay on it“, einem Stück des afroamerikanischen Komponisten, Tänzers und Sängers Julius Eastman. Die verschollene, aus der Erinnerung rekonstruierte Partitur von 1972 basiert auf Wiederholung und Variation und verbindet Einflüsse der Populärmusik mit frei improvisierbaren Passagen. Der radikale Minimalismus des Stücks ist konfrontativ und sehr emotional: das Stück wurde beim Hören akribisch mitgezeichnet und in zwei Linienblöcke unterteilt. Eine durch eine Bleistiftmine ergänzte Gravierstiftspitze wird zum Seismographen des Hörens in der gleichzeitig zeichnenden Hand.

The drawing was created by repeatedly listening to and sketching along with a recording of “Stay on it,” a piece by African-American composer, dancer, and singer Julius Eastman. The lost score from 1972, reconstructed from memory, is based on repetition and variation and combines influences from popular music with freely improvised passages. The radical minimalism of the piece is confrontational and though highly emotional: the piece was meticulously sketched while listening and divided into two blocks of lines. An engraving pen tip supplemented by a pencil lead is used as a seismograph in the simultaneously drawing hand.
