Sound Piece for Ligeti
(Apparitions)

The work Sound Piece for Ligeti initiates a dialogue between a swarm of tiny fruit flies and a micropolyphonic orchestral work of Gy├Ârgy Ligeti,
inspired by an early musical vision of the young composer.
The almost inaudible sounds of tiny fruit flies were recorded in different glass cylinders when hatching, pupating, flying in and out. The recordings were
used for a sound piece that fuses with Ligeti's composition "Apparitions". Played back within the glass objects, the sounds of the wings are interweaving
with the orchestra's play, played back by a miniature speaker fixed on the wall. While the playback of the orchestral music is reduced in its size, the swarm
of the fruit flies appear at times unobstrusively, at times overwhelming the orginal musical play.
