Sound Piece for Ligeti

Glass containers, speakers, fruit flies, food color, black applesauce,
cables, shredded paper, amplifier, microphone, audio players

variable dimensions

Reminiscent of the micropolyphonic sound clusters in Gyorgi Ligeti’s work Apparitions, the almost inaudible sounds of tiny fruit flies were recorded inside different glass jars while groowing up, being in and flying out of the sonorous glasses. The recordings were used for a sound composition that fuses with Ligeti's sounds of his work Apparitions. Played back within the glasses, the almost inaudible sounds of the wings are interweaving with the orchestra's play, played back by a miniature speaker fixed on the wall. While the orchestra's play becomes very “small”, the fruit fly sounds appear at times unobstrusively, at times overwhelming the orginal musical play.
